1/24 and 1/32 Scale Carrera Slot Car Race Track Sets
(See our track sets)
I answer this question all the time: "What's the difference between the 1/24 scale track sets and the 1/32 scale track sets?" There are actually only 3 things that are different.
~First, when you buy Exclusiv (1/24 scale) track sets, you get 1/24 scale cars instead of the 1/32 ones you get with the Evolution (1/32 scale) track sets.
~Second, the transformers are different
~Third, 1/24 scale race track sets also include the curve borders that prevent the wheels of the 1/24 cars from slipping off the edge of the track. With the Exclusiv track set (1/24 scale) you get an 18-volt transformer. The 1/24 Carrera slot cars like a little more juice than 1/32 scale ones, which prefer 14 volts of power.
~ Fourth, Carrera used to make analog 1/24 track sets, but now they only manufacture 1/24 digital track sets. But again the only real difference between the extinct analog 1/24 Carrera track set and the 1/32 analog track set (not including the cars of course), is the transformer. ( You can buy a 1/24 analog transformer separately, or upgrade to an adjustable power supply which many of our racers do.) So, you can still race analog 1/24 with the purchase of a 1/32 Carrera analog track set. as the track that comes in both scale sets is the exact same track. This track lets you race either scale car. Call Carrera Digital cars, either 132 or 124 in scale come with a switch on the bottom of the cars, flip this switch and you are now racing an analog car.
You can run 1/24, 1/32, Carrera Digital 132 cars on any and all Carrera track sets. If you want to race digitally of course, you need a digital track set for the basics...but you expand your track set, i.e. straightaways and curves with the basic Carrera track. )
So, again, if you purchase an Analog Carrera track set, you can race any brand of slot car, i.e. Scalextric, AUTOArt (we carry both 1/24 and 1/32), Slot. It, Ninco, etc...on your Carrera Track Set! Carrera makes the only track wide enough to run both sizes. See our comparison pictures and information below: |
| Comparison Chart |
| Scalextric Sport | SCX | Carrera | Ninco |
| Track Width | 6 1/8" | 6 1/16" | 7 3/4" | 7 1/16" |
| Slot Separation | 3 1/8" | 3 1/8" | 3 7/8" | 3 17/32" |
If you are blessed with unlimited amounts of space for a track, consider yourself lucky and build yourself a huge track for your 1/24 scale racers! Size does matter folks, especially with 1/24 scale tracks. When you are ready to expand the size of your track, keep in mind that everything is a better value when you buy complete track sets. You get 2 cars, controllers, track sections, and another transformer, all at a lot less than buying them separately. Besides, it is always a good idea to have extra track, controllers, etc...because inevitably you are gonna break something, somehow, sometime!
If space is a concern, no problem...you would be amazed at the great tracks you can construct on the top of a ping-pong table. Seriously! However, we don't recommend Carrera for tight spaces, we recommend Scalextric or the Ninco Master Track set; made to specifically fit on a 4' x 8' piece of plywood.
So, don't let room hold you back; 1/32 slot cars are the way to go if space is tight though. There are some great books (check out our book page)
that will show you how to build different tracks depending on space. Let your creative juices flow and get ready to have fun!
