Carrera Digital Set-up: Controllers, Programming

Carrera digital cars are designed to run clockwise. When setting up the track layout make sure that the lane change sections are connected in the correct direction. Each Carrera lane change section has a tiny sensor. This sensor has to be in front of the lane change (not behind) for clockwise rotation. If using wireless controllers the Mobil One tower needs to be plugged into port #1 on the black box. Once the layout is completed the power can be turned on and programming can begin.

WIRELESS CONTROLLERS
Carrera wireless controllers must be programmed to ports (1, 2, 3, or 4) on the Carrera black box the first time they are used. If you have 6 wireless controllers the last 2 wireless controllers will need to be programmed to ports (5 or 6) even though they don't physically exist. The wireless controllers communicate with the Mobil 1 tower and need a line of sight with the tower to work correctly. (within a 3 meter radius)
To program your wireless controllers:
1.) Take the wireless controller and point it at the tower.

2.) While holding the lane change button in turn the power switch on (switch is on the bottom of the controller). The red LED on the top of the controller will stay on.

3.) Let go of the lane change button and now push the lane change button once for port #1 and then confirm the programming of the controller by pushing the throttle down.

4.) Repeat this procedure with every wireless controller keeping in mind that you want to program each wireless controller to its own port. Example: to program a wireless controller to port #2 you would push the lane change button 2 times and then confirm programming by pushing the throttle down.

WIRED CONTROLLERS
With wired controllers you simply plug them in to the ports on the power box.

PROGRAMMING THE CARRERA DIGITAL CARS
Now you are ready to program the cars. To program a Carrera digital car first make sure no other cars are on the track. Take the car that you intend to program and look at the bottom of the car. You will see a tiny exciter bulb and a switch next to it. Make sure that the switch is set in the position so that it is the farthest from the exciter bulb. Then do the following:
1.) Place the car you want to program on the track in clockwise direction. It is recommended that you place the car on the terminal track section. If the car you are programming has headlights they should be on. If not, push the lane change button once and if the car has headlights they should come on. If the car you are programming does not have headlights this is OK, it just makes it easier to confirm the car is communicating with the controller if the car has headlights.

2.) Now with the car on the track push the lane change button 2 times.

3.) Then pick up the front of the car so the brushes no longer make contact with the track rails. Then set the car back down on the track. At this point if the car has headlights they will be flashing on and off.

4.) Push the lane change button two times again and then confirm the programming by pushing the throttle down. Your car should now be programmed to that controller. If after 2 or 3 times the car doesn't program flip the car over and check the position of the switch. For digital mode the switch should be farthest away from the exciter bulb.

PROGRAMING A CARRERA DIGITAL SLOT CAR TO BE AN AUTONOMOUS CAR
First make sure that all other cars have been removed from the track and then follow the steps below:
1.) Place the Carrera digital car that you want to program to become an autonomous car on the track. We recommend that you place the car on the section of track that the control box is attached to. Make sure that the control box is turned on and if you are using a wireless controller, make sure it is turned on and keep a line of sight between the controller and the receiver tower.

2.) With the control box on and the car placed on the track the headlights should be on (if the car has them). If the car has headlights and they are not on, press the lane change button one time and they should light up, (if the car has headlights). If the car does not have headlights the procedure is the same, the headlights just let you know that the car is responding to the programing. When programing a car without headlights you won't know if it's working until you finish the last step.

3.) Now that the car is on the track and the headlights are on, push the lane change button 2 times.

4.) Now lift the front of the car off the track so that the contact brushes no longer make contact with the power rails.

5.) Set the car back down on the track and the lights will start flashing. While the lights are flashing press the lane change button 4 times and then gently push the throttle and drive the car around the track one full lap and then push the lane change button while the car is in motion and now the car should drive itself. The autonomous car will switch lanes randomly.

PROGRAMING A CARRERA DIGITAL CAR TO BE A PACE CAR
For a pace car to function, you must have a pit lane on your track layout. To program a Carrera digital car as a pace car the procedure is the same as above except you push the lane change button 6 times instead of 4 times. The pace car will run around the track one lap and pull into the pit lane and stop. Keep in mind you will need to place the pace car in front of the pit lane not behind it. If the pace car is placed behind the pit lane the pace car will pull into the pit lane and stop without making a full lap first.

CARRERA DIGITAL SPEED & BRAKING FUNCTION (with wireless controllers)
To adjust the speed of an individual car, remove all the cars and place the car or cars on the track that you want to adjust for speed and do the following:
1.)With the wireless controller that is programed to port #1 of the black box or a wired controller that is plugged into port #1 of the black box perform step 2 below.

2.) Now you are ready to adjust the seed of the car. Make sure all cars other than the one you want to adjust the speed on are removed from the track. Turn the black box off and with the wireless controller or wired controller that is programed or plugged into port#1 hold the lane change button down and turn the black box on. The black box should light the first LED to the left side of the box. If this does not happen, try it again. (Sometimes it takes more than one attempt to do this)

3.) When the first light on the left side is lighted this is the lowest setting (slowest speed) if you continue to push the lane change button several times the box will light the other LED's one at a time until all five LED's are lighted. This is the highest setting or fastest speed. When you are done selecting the speed setting, confirm the program by pushing the throttle all the way down.

To adjust the braking function of an individual car, the controller that is programmed to port #2 or plugged into port#2 is to be used.
This is done the same way as above but this time you are adjusting the braking not the speed on the black box. One light being the lowest (less braking) and all five lights being the highest (most braking).
