Here are some short videos to get you started on landscaping your Slot Car Diorama.
As you know, there are many different aspects of the 1/32 slot car hobby that makes it so much FUN! Racers, model builders and even train guys find common ground here. One of the most fun and rewarding things about this hobby is decorating your track. Whether you just add a few building and trees, or get serious and add ultra realistic detailing, decorating a slot car track adds dimension, scale and realism to your layout. After all, the manufacturers go to great pains to make sure their cars are as close to the real thing as possible, so why not take a little time and effort to do the same with your layout. If you are ready to get serious about decorating your track, we stock a lot of great items to help you out. Slot car hobbyists use the same methods as train guys do, with a little more emphasis on durability, since slot cars tend to come off the track more frequently and at a higher speed than trains. For example, our line of JTT trees are not only the most realistic trees available, they are made with twisted wire armatures which makes them infinitely shapable to your tastes, but also very durable. Developed by an architect, JTT makes very realistic items which are used for architectural models, landscape architects, gamers, railroad enthusiasts and slot car guys alike. We stock all of the Accessory materials you need for decorating your track including: Figures, Billboards , Buildings , a variety of Trees , plaster cloth, plaster and a variety of simulated Grass and lots more Scenery options . Don't be intimidated, it is really very easy (even for beginners) to get awesome detail on slot car layouts. Check out these great how-to videos then roll up your sleeves and get busy making your track look great!
Painting of cast plaster rocks (embedded in a plaster of paris landscape) with acrylic (water-based) paints.
Installing foam risers, inclines and roadbed for a model railroad.
Adding realism to setting a building within the scenery of a model railroad.
To make mountains.. cut a foam board.. hot glue corners together if you need them. Then wad up newspaper and stuff it in balls to make a general shape. Get wide tape and just loosely tape it in place. Get plaster cloth, dip in cold water, squeeze out extra water, then lay over your wads of newspaper. Let the plaster cloth harden slightly, (in just a few minutes) then squeeze it a little to shape your hillside/mtn. Then go to paint store and get latex paint samples in say a brown and then paint the mountain to get the dirt look for underneath bushes and trees.
It is that easy!
